LACTATION AND TONGUE-TIE APPOINTMENTS
|
Many families find the information about breastfeeding conflicting, and tongue-tie is frequently dismissed as a cause of difficulty. We aim to answer your questions clearly and provide a range of strategies that you can implement yourself as you gain confidence in feeding your baby.
We believe that mothers are the experts, and we want you to trust yourself and your baby. When mothers follow their instincts, babies thrive. Breastfeeding difficulties arise firstly because of misinformation, and secondly, there can be an anatomical challenge that contributes to problems. When misinformation together with a physical (anatomical) difficulty such as tongue-tie, feeding can be more difficult. Australia has failed to train its health workers about breastfeeding and offers no consumer protections on products related to infant feeding. This means many recommendations for managing breastfeeding challenges are commercially influenced using fictional numerical norms (expressing, triple feeding, measuring nipples, timed feedings etc), branded items and a plethora of unproven devices.
